What Shall We Call Ourselves! [Updated]

Recently we’ve hit a brick wall and we’re not sure how to proceed any further under our current name. We are swamped under the many other “Infinity Gaming” places out there (especially on YouTube) So we are considering a change of name and operations. We have been thinking about it for ages but now is the time for action.

We won’t be shutting down, just making a few changes over the coming weeks to make us stand out more and appeal more. In terms of name change we have a few names put into a short list, and are in the poll below. So please vote for your favourite. Alternatively if you have another suggestion which is decent please enter it into the “other” box. If we use a name you provide us we will give you full credit and a prize* for helping us out!

Our Day @ Multiplay Insomnia 50

On Saturday, the 30th of November, most of the staff at Infinity Gaming Media met up at Birmingham New Street Train Station and boarded a train set off for Telford. For Multiplay Insomnia 50.

Upon arriving at Telford we had to rely on Phone GPS to get us to the Telford International Centre, where the event was being hosted. We got a bit lost and sidetracked (Stopped at a McDonald’s) but we eventually arrived, upon entering we had our tickets in hand and bags ready to be checked.

That’s where this video picks up from, after entering we started filming. The video only has a small amount of highlights from the day though so I shall fill in the gaps below the video.

After the little filming in the LAN hall we walked around and spoke to some of the gamers that were at the event, asking them about their computer systems (We feel sorry for that person with the liquid cooling leak) and games they liked to play, we found a lot of variety there however a lot at the time were playing League of Legends. We possibly spent a good hour in the LAN hall before moving on towards the Exhibition hall.

The first stall we encountered in the Exhibition hall was MSI Notebook, trading likes for swag and they were very generous. We got an assortment of goodies from them, including a big bag with quality mouse mats, 2-3 codes for free games, a solid steel dog tag and some other bits and bobs. At the time I was more happy about the bag they gave us as the bag I had originally brought was broken and such a pain to carry.

Across from MSI Notebook was Kingston and Overclockers UK, showing off an impressive Computer build called the 8 ball and smaller, LAN friendly PC’s along with an assortment of peripherals in display cases. Kingston was using the stall for a competition. Blowing up balloons with a piece of paper inside them and handing them out to the public and keeping hold of them until a time when they would come back, pop their balloon and find out if they won any Kingston gear such as an SSD.

After stopping off at these two stalls we had a further look around the hall, Thermal Take, Razer, Xbox, Alienware, Xcom, Monster, Quest Coolmaster etc. So many companies had showed up for the event that day showing off their products and running their own small events. For example Coolmaster was hosting an event to get the fastest lap time on GRID 2 and were giving out some great prizes for the top three players (The winner walked away with a GTX 770 that day) however they were handing out 4 free games just for having a go!

We had a long look around the whole exhibition hall, afterall it was full of games, systems, merchandise, board games, retro games, indie games and peripherals.

Then we came across the Battlefield 4 set-up in the hall,  16 vs 16 with commander points. From there we got distracted. We played a game each casually then were informed that a battlefield tournament would be happening, and so we signed up for it. We wasn’t going to say no for the chance to prove ourselves and each get £200 worth of headset. We signed up early so after we finished up at the Battlefield 4 section we went and grabbed something to eat, sat down and had a chat.

After that we moved into the main hall which was being used for all of the Esport competitions. Including a separate Battlefield 4 Tournament which we sat and watched until the time we had to go for our own tournament.

We arrived for our first match, got ourselves settled and changed the settings to suit us then we began. The tournament consisted of 12 teams of 5 and  were split into two different tiers. So the Winner of Tier 1 would face off the winner of Tier 2 to decide the overall winner. Each game would be a best of three and the game mode would be a squad domination so the maps were small and teamwork was a must to capture the points, drain the enemies tickets and win.

Our first round was a close win for us but come the second round we got it together and won easily by about 100 tickets and passed to the next game.

The next game we had we wasn’t so lucky, we lost both rounds, the first round was really bad, we had a break down in communication and suffered however in the second we came back and put up a much better fight but to no avail. We however lost to the team that won the tournament so we felt good to know that we could of potentially been 2nd if they wasn’t in the same tier as we were.

After the tournament we didn’t have much time for anything else, we stopped by Overclockers UK again and spoke to the staff for a while then we began our journey back to towards the train station to head back home.

It wasn’t an easy time trying to get home for some of us though, the train some of us needed to board was redirected to another station and we didn’t hear the announcement so they missed the train. Luckily the staff were helpful enough and got them on the next train after.
